every drop of milk from the hollow husk,

slurps the sweet dribble from his fingers,
and then looks for more, tears away

long strips of pale flesh with ragged nails,
chews like a piston, gasping, gasping for breath,

savors each priceless mouthful, spreads the
sinewy pulp across his face, coats his arms

with redolent fruit. His fingertips are raw
red crescents, his cheeks are stained, his joy

knows no limits -- he cannot be sated --
